Login Crashed

When I go to login and type password it logs onto screen for about one second
the logs me out to main login screen....i've tried the f8 and all the safe
modes, etc. but to no avail the same thing keeps happening....i can't get
into xp at all....help....and by the way didn't make a windows start-up
disk...would be most greatful if someone had and idea of what is
happening....i think maybe virus but which one....
