You make an interesting case regarding freeware pop-up blockers.
I tried the Google pop-up blocker, and it was worthless. In my case,
I think I could live with the Windows XP Pro SP2 Pop-up Blocker if
Microsoft would fix "Ctrl to override" in the "High: Block all pop-ups"
setting, so that I could simply hit the Ctrl key whenever I wanted to see
the pop-up. Instead, when I hit the Ctrl key with the "High: Block all
pop-ups" setting, I always get a new window with my home web page.
I have found that if I use the "Medium: Block most automatic pop-ups"
setting in the new Windows XP Pro SP2 Pop-up Blocker, I still get
some unwanted pop-ups from some aggressive web sites that send you
unwanted pop-ups. So I have tried using the "High: Block all pop-ups
{Ctrl to override}" setting. Again, the problem with this latter setting is
that when I hit "Ctrl to override" and allow the pop-up, I never get the
requested pop-up. Instead, I always get a new home web page, which
renders this option useless. I am surprised that Microsoft would release
a Pop-up Blocker with an obvious bug like this.
