Thank You for the reply.
I do have Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Hijack This. Also, Norton
2004, Spyware Blaster, Regseeker, and Zone Alarm. I run
these programs on a regular basis. My system stays clean
and performs well at all times, so I don't feel this is a
virus or hacker problem.

I don't quite understand the I/O read and write effects
but all the high readings are done mostly by Norton which
has a reputation for being a resource hog.

Just another hunch, does indexing service have anything to
do with it because I've turned it off and unchecked the
option on my drive.

Can you rcommend a site that explains in detail how the
File Types function works. I can't get anything even
close on Micrsoft's support page.
