Depends on how it was acquired. Was it a retail purchase ?,
if so do you still have the receipt and the Production Identification number
?
Replacement help is also more likely if you registered the product.
You might contact Microsoft and explain about the missing disk.
However, since it's been 3-years, the product is probably not in
inventory anymore. Best approach might be to locate someone who
has the same version and ask to copy/borrow the missing disk.
Misplaced or lost disks is simply a "Life's Lesson". You can buy a
zippered packet to hold important disks and not have a stack of
cases laying around. On products where the Orange MS PID# is
on the case, get a Ultra Fine point "Sharpie" and transcribe the PID
onto the disk itself. Use a magnifying glass if required to be able to
discern between similar characters. Just make sure what is on the
label is what you've written on the disk.
Sometimes I will actually copy the disk and use the copy and file the
original safely away somewhere. All it takes is one good "Scuff" mark
and the disk won't be usable anymore.
