I cannot start win xp. When I boot I get a message saying
that d:/windows/system32/config/system is corrupted. The
message says that I should repair win xp pressing 'r'
after booting from xp cd. I done so but it goes nowhere
and the drive is making a strange sound. Will I have to
format disk and reinstall xp? Can someone please help?

thanks, ted
