Thanks again. I think i will go for the Debian distro. There is
variant (Quantian, dirk.eddelbuettel.com/quantian.html) that
is of particular interest to me.
I have one last question. The troubled machine has an encrypted
container (Bestcrypt) of 5 gb. Do you think it is possible to open
this container or to split it in order to save it to CD?
