On a major brand PC, the administrator password is usually not your
password, but the password of the first administrator who installed XP. In
your case that would be HP. Contact HP support and ask them how to access
the recovery console, or how to do a "repair" install (if supported by their
CDs). Avoid any offers to walk you through a full system restore (HP
restore, not XP restore), unless you want to lose all data and go back to
the day you bought the PC.
