Drive A: Unable to lock for exclusive access

I have encountered a problem with my floppy drive. I
don't use it very often and it has been a while since I
last used it. I can read files from the floppy drive
without any problems. When I try to write to it I get an
error message, either "parameter is incorrect", "unable
to write block", or "Drive A: Unable to lock for
exclusive access". This problem exists in normal or safe
modes. I have replaced the floppy drive with a known
working drive and still have the same problem. Any help
with this issue would be appreciated.
