I agree with KM that something has been knocked loose. However, I
wouldn't bother calling Compaq tech support. I'm sure you love your
Dad, but this isn't something you can troubleshoot from 4 states away.
Tell him to look in the Yellow Pages under Computer Repair and either
take the machine to a good local shop or have someone come out and fix
it. This is not something that can be fixed over the telephone with a
user who is not computer-savvy.
