As far as removing items from Startup in the registry, go to the
HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows>Current Version>Run (and Run Once) and
remove things. Do the same in the HKCU area. You could also try logging
into the user's account and running msconfig using the runas command
and run as administrator.
