Bravo to SP2 team!!! :o) also some space notes...

Damn thing works!!!!!!! :o)

I was running XP Pro SP1 with all critical updates on.
I backed up the partition with Ghost (only thing of Norton I trust!)

I downloaded the 280mb .exe from MS and burned it to CD.

On the CD, I executed it. It unpacked it to a partition that had tons of
room (SP2 install has smarts!! - good job!!!) (332mb) (deleted at end of
install).

It then automatically proceeded to go through the install which takes
between 10 and 20 min (I didn't check)

Sygate caught one outbound access to MS during the install (allowed, of
course) so make sure your firewalls are open!

It creates a 412mb uninstall folder in c:\windows\
(I had every critical update on my system (SP1) so this might be a tad less
for some folks)

My C drive is now 2.96GB . (I'm sorry, I did not check for the size before
the install - 2.4 or 2.6gb, I think). Most of the growth is due to the
uninstall folder. Remember, this size is WinXP Pro plus MS Publisher plus
a bunch of other stuff. However, my big non MS executables like OpenOffice
are in another partition.

I defragged it with PD6, though it wasn't in as much of a mess as I had
expected.

First shutdown takes perhaps 30-60 secs longer. first boot takes perhaps
30-60 secs longer. Subsequent boots are 20 secs, as before.

I chose not to use XP's firewall as I use Sygate. It did not recognize
Sygate but Sygate performed flawlessly.

I chose not to use Automatic updates - Personal preference, especially
after the prob I had in recent months with the rollup.

It correctly recognized my Avast! antivirus.

I selected not to be warned for the firewall and the automatic updates
being off (nice design, guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

In IE options, I chose not to use the popup blocker as, so far, the google
toolbar has worked well for me.

I use AdSubtract Pro 3 for ads and cookies, so it sets up a proxy. The SP2
install correctly left that there but anoyingly added a bunch of
exclusions, like disney, etc, so do check that!!!

The install did not touch my NIC (DSL) settings (thank you!) and in fact it
seems to run infinitessmally faster.
