Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, it IS a network
printer. It is a $650 Dell Laser Multi-Function Printer
1600n. The network works fine for printing from the two
computers, but just not for scanning, and Dell Support is
claiming this is a Windows XP issue. For instance, when I
go to My Computer "Scanners and Cameras" it is not
recognising the scanner, even after I add it and the
drivers. Why? How do I solve this?

P.S. Don't ever buy a Dell, their support is the worst
thing I have ever encountered.
