FWIW, last night I was running into similar errors trying
to fix XP, where I was in this seemingly endless loop of
the system crashing during the install and then starting
over at the beginning. Eventually however, after about 6
or 8 times, it made it through the install (it gave up
declaring the error?). XP still has issues, and I will
probably have to do a clean install, but it does work now
reasonably well, well enough that I can get off of the
hard drive what I need before wiping it all out.
Good luck.
