My computer with Windows XP will not act right. I have 2 user accounts, one
for me and one for my brother. When I log on to my account, my start menu
and my task bar does not work at all. When I move the mouse over the task
bar, the hour glass shows up and I cannot click anything. The start menu
will not respond from the keyboard. On my brother's account the start menu
and task bar work for ten minutes and then it locks up. Everything is
frozen. The only thing I can run are programs. When I am able to activate
the start menu, only programs will run. It won't let me use the control
panel. I recently bought a router to run a small home network. When I
installed it, it worked fine for the first couple of days. Now, every thing
recognizes the router except for my computer. Even the wireless usb network
adapter recognizes the router but my programs won't let me access it. I
don't think the router has anything to do with my Windows woes, but i can't
fix my LAN until I can access the control panel. My problems really started
2 minutes after I downloaded a spyware scanner from ad-aware. It was
recommended to me to control all the pop-up windows I recieve and to fix my
slow computer. Also, periodically Windows XP crashes on my computer and
changes the resolution settings to the lowest possible settings. I don't get
the blue screen of death, but everything moves slow and my task bar
disappears. Oh, when I log on to either account, a message pops up that says
something about Java Virtual Machine. Is there anybody out there who can
help me.
