gary,
first things first. you may want to save your important documents to cd,
another hard drive, or any form of backup. reformatting your hard drive
would erase everything in your computer.
second, prior to (re-) installation of windows, you need to make sure that
you have all the drivers of your computer. this may include, but not
limited to, video card, motherboard, modem, network card, monitor (sometimes
you have them, sometimes you don't), dvd/cd-rom drives (sometimes you have
them, sometimes you don't), etc.
