There is a command prompt utility that produces a dos prompt under
windows. It's in Start / Programs / Accessories / Command Prompt.
If you need a TRUE MS-DOS mode, there is a way to get it providing that
your C: drive is FAT32, and you do this on a blank hard drive before you
install Windows. Create an MS-DOS diskette under a system running
Windows 98SE, and first install that, so that the hard drive boots to a
C:> prompt. Then install Windows XP normally on drive C:. It will
setup DOS and Windows XP as a dual boot environment, and you will get a
menu when you start the computer. In this case, both OS' can exist in
the same partition (C:). Remember that MS-DOS will only "see" FAT
partitions, and that it cannot access anything beyond 137 gigabytes
(and, attempting to do so may cause data loss).
