I am using Windows XP Pro with SP1. I went into WU and
xpsp2 is there ready for install. I have a computer
friend who said he would install it for me when it was
ready. I called him and he said that when he installed
sp2 on his computer (3.5GH drive) it downloaded and
installed just fine, but when he rebooted all he got was
a black screen and he had to reinstall all his programs.
He said my computer was not big enough for download and
not to do it. I need a second opinion. I have read alot
about xpsp2 and printed it. I have an IBM thinkpad 390x
laptop computer. It has 256 MB of RAM and is 398MHz.
Memory free is 682MB and used 156MB. It has 11.23GB Hard
drive (7.35 GB free and 3.88MB used). If this is not big
enough and WU has the download ready, it won't install
unless I click install. Correct? I really would like to
have xpsp2 but not sure if I want to attempt it now.
Since the download is ready in WU will it just stay there
until I decide I want to install it? I also have all
critical updates, NSW2003 definitions updated, firewall
is with Microsoft. Can anyone give me their opinion? Just
don't want to loose computer because of xpsp2 install
because I wouldn't know what to do then.
