Oddly, there is no mention made of the 835409 knowledge base article or the
associated patch on the MS web site, so I am very wary of installing the
patch.

I contacted HP to tell them this and said

"If there is a good reason why this patch should be applied despite there
being no mention made of it on the MS website then you should say so,
otherwise the web site should be changed to remove this confusing
information."

They replied and said

"Thank you for writing back.

I understand that the Knowledge base article mentioned on the HP Web
site is not listed in Microsoft Web site"

and that was it.

The web page dissapeared shortly afterwards, but I see that it is now back
again.
I leave it to you to decide whether you want to install the patch
