I guess that the answer is to just be patient at least for now. I wonder if
the laptop got priority because it had a preinstalled version of Windows XP
(by HP) while the desktop that hasn't received it yet has the upgrade
version from a cd on a white box machine? We'll see......

It can take a few days at least to even start downloading. Because it is a
major update, Microsoft is limiting the number of users whom can download it
at a time. It can take awhile before it even starts.
