I'm running XP SP2. How does your reply have anything to do with zip
folders in the root directory and XP SP2 being slow accessing the C: drive?

I had this problem cpu usage shot up to max I decided to revert to restore
point prior to installation bloody thing wouldn`t revert so went back as
far as I could don`t know how or why but things are working fine just slow
at start up. I think it must be checking for every up date in cyber space
