Hi Gerry,
When you have the full version [on CD], the update process will only extract
what it requires - much like the Windows Update process does from the
Internet. The only difference is that the CD will contain everything that
you could require. Basically, having the CD means that you could update any
Windows XP machine.
The end result will be exactly the same. Either:
- Windows Update will extract what is required from MS servers across the
Internet or
- the full SP2 executable will extract what is required from the CD.
The upshot is that if someone has a fast enough connection, then downloading
260+MB will affect them less than you downloading between 60 and 80MB via
dialup.
