ERROR UPDATING TO W XP PRO

I was updating my PC from W Me to W XP, an I had choosen
the simpler way (not formatting), the installation was
being performed normally, up to when XP installation
program asked me for users and passwords; I entered two
users' name and their passwords, but then came an error
say something like "there is an error with
mssign32.dll...". The truth is, right now the users'
names were not created, and In the welcome screen only
appears the "standard" user, but I don have any idea what
is the password. At this moment, my computer is
completely unusable, and I wasn't wary enough to do a
backup....

Someone could help me?
