What is "av.exe"?

My virus scanner says I have a trojan horse in "c:\\windows\av.exe" and it
can't be fixed or quarantined; it can only be deleted. Before I delete it,
can someone please tell me what is the av.exe file? Is it important? Is it OK
to delete it? Will I destroy my computer if I delete it?
This is the first time I used the antivirus software, and I don't know what
to do with the results :>)
Thanks for any information,
Mom
