I meant Acronis's True Image 7. It is a super program. I am not sure what
the differences are with version 6. But True Image 7 works flawlessly in
both directions. It is also one of the few that will save the image to a
USB external drive. Even though it saves an image of the partition, you are
not limited to restoring the entire image. It allows you to also select
individual files from the image to restore just these files - which I have
done several times. So it works as both an image backup AND a file to file
backup. One backup does it all, including incremental backups, etc. Just a
terrific utility.

In restoring the system partition it booted into a different OS (I think it
was a Linux flavor) did its thing and then restarted Windows XP. All
automatically and with no hiccups. I was always afraid to try that with the
system partition but it was no problem.
