It should be offering you some choices as to where install the boot loader.
Although I am not familiar with SUSE specifically, that is standard. My
rule for that is to *never* install the boot loader in the MBR.
Install it in the superblock of your /boot or / partition, then use Disk
Management (XP) or fdisk (Linux) to set that partition active. If anything
goes wrong, you can always change the active partition back to Windows.

You can repair the MBR by booting from the Windows XP CD-ROM and using the
fixmbr command in the recovery console:
You can also use "fdisk /mbr" with a Windows 9x startup disk, if you happen
to have one handy -- the standard MBR code hasn't changed in the last 20
years.
