maybe someone will give you better advise, but here's mine.
I find that, on average, I have spent at least 10 hours trying to fix my
computer
when it messed up from virus.
it takes 4 hours to "reinstall" everything from scratch.
I partitioned my hd in three parts:
C: is where windows lives. (30G)
D: is where all install files (web-purchased software, like AV stuff) and
drivers live (10G)
E: is data.(120G)
when you pop the XP cd in teh drive, and start the compuer, it runs the
install.
ther are good directions on how to do this on the web.
I'm sure someone here can give you the address.
have fun, good luck
