Start Windows with Last Open Programs

I often work with many open files. Is it possible to shut down Windows XP
with these files open then, when restarting the machine, have these files
open again automatically?
When I used to use WordPerfect at work a few years ago, it was able to start
up with the last file(s) worked on already open.
