Hi Bruce,

IBM is not recommending SP2 for deployment internal to their own network.
Evidentially, they have some internal software that doesn't work with SP2
installed in the default configuration.

There is nothing - to my knowledge - that should prevent you from installing
SP2 on a computer simply because it's IBM hardware.

I didn't move from Windows 2000 until after SP2 so I'm not very familiar with it, but I seem to recall reading that the post-SP2 version was a significant upgrade. ... Even if you can install SP3 patches on SP2, there are likely to be faults and vulnerabilities in SP2 that never get patched because they don't apply to SP3. ...
