Ok, I am running a dual boot Windows XP Home/ Linux Red
Hat and one day when loading Windows my it said it was
missing c:\windows\system32\hal.dll, so I went online at
my mom's and found out I could just reinstall windows and
it would be fine, so went to install with my Compaq boot
disk, but all I could do really do is format and
reinstall. So I used my girl friends Windows XP she got
with her Gateway and was able to reinstall over my old
version and it works perfect, the only problem is that
when I start up it tells me "You have x amount of days to
activate windows", so I go to activate and then it tells
me "Windows is already activated. Please click ok to
exit." and now I have read online that when I reach 0
days Windows will not work. I called Microsoft and they
said since I'm using an OEM they can't help me and I have
to contact Compaq, but my warrenty has expired and I
really don't want to have to pay money to fix something I
might be able to do myself. I have 7 days from today, so
does anyone know what I can do?
