Okay - second reply to your second post.
But that's okay!

For fun I did a google search on "Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction"
without the quotes.
You could/should have done this. :o)
google saves me boucoup time!!!!!!!!

The first hit was a pointer to MicroSoft:
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/WindowsServ/2003/all/techref/en-us/Default.asp?url=/resources/documentation/windowsServ/2003/all/techref/en-us/w2k3tr_dfrag_tools.asp

Part way down that page it says:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"BootOptimizeFunction
The following registry entries are located under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction.

Enable
Registry path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Dfrg\BootOptimizeFunction

Version Windows Server 2003

Accepted values for this entry are Y or N. If the entry is set to Y,
Windows automatically optimizes the file location for boot optimization.
This optimization occurs automatically if the system is idle for 10
minutes. Boot optimization improves startup time by locating startup files
in contiguous clusters on the volume, reducing the movement of the disk
head when reading the volume."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

So there you are. As 3 people have told you, there is no defrag at boot
time even if you happen to have Windows Server 2003.

To see what a real defrag at boot time is, I encourage you to download a
trial of PerfectDisk.
run it with smartplacement, once, then select "offline defragment" and at
the next boot it will spend a few VERY profitable minutes defragging your
directory structure and other system structures (do not ask it to defrag
the page file! It's unnecessary and takes forever). Your system will then
automatically reboot and it will come up faster than it did before! You
will not be locked in to PerfectDisk - you can keep it or not as you
choose.
I do not work for Raxco but since the early days of XP Release Candidate
One (XPRC1), I came to know and love PerfectDisk V4. Now at V6, it is
way faster and reduces my boot to about 20 seconds to desktop. Greg Hayes
can't say all this stuff on this forum because he works for the company,
but I sure can! and do! It is a tremendous time saver for me!
hth
any questions, fire away!!! :o)
(and of course, as the MVPs know, if I am wrong in this, please correct
me!!!)
