i am having trouble typing

When I type in any program such as word, email, or anytime I need to type more than 2 or 3 characters, I find myself typing in a different area than where I started.
Normally this area is an area before the area I was typing in. It might be in the same sentence or in email it my be from the body of the message to the subject.
Even now I have had to correct the position in this message 3 times, one of those times this message was moved and I had to find it.
I have been trying to resolve this problem for many months. I have a new Dell Spiron 5100 with Xp home addittion. Can anyone help?
