S. Heenan:
I think the OP probably was referring to the 8 MB partition that is
auto-created by XP during the installation process to handle dynamic disk
information, and mistakenly referred to it as 8 GB. A advertised 80 GB hard
drive would actually have a capacity of a bit more than 74 GB.
