That must have been fun. I can't imagine why'd you would want to
upgrade the operating system.

You might have saved yourself some trouble by doing a little research.
A 2GB partition doesn't go very far. But disk space is so cheap these
days it's not much of a concern. I'd recommend something more along
the lines of a 10 to 20 GB partition for OS and applications. With XP
there's not a lot to be gained from partitioning the boot disk anyway,
so if you've got a single 20 or 40 or 250GB disk, just run it as your
C: drive.

Half an hour to install an operating system like XP? So long as you
don't get back to your habit of reinstalling the OS every 60 days, big
deal? I'll bet you got that Windows ME install down to such a science
that an installation just whizzed right by.

Most, or all of that slowdown is just a matter of perception due to
the animated effects. It obviously takes longer to slide out a menu
than to just instantly display it. Your PC isn't being slowed by
these trivial animations. I turn all of these effects off myself,
just to make the user interface snappier.

This can't possibly be any different than with you ME system. Unless,
of course, you weren't applying the patches. XP has many more
instances where patch installs and changes to operating configuration
don't require a reboot.

Are you complaining about the patches or having to reboot? How does
having broadband make your reboots faster?

How much memory is installed in this system? That's the one _major_
difference between XP and it's predecessors. You can run it in 256MB,
even less, but I've seen it crawl and seen programs crash on a system
with 192MB of ram. I'd recommend 512MB minimum and 1MB or more if
you're doing any serious work with large programs.
