DVD burning problem

I have a Plextor PX-708A and when I burn DVD's using the latest
version of Nero I get the option of going 8x, 4x, and 2.4x. Now here
are the actual times I am getting-
8x = 1hour 15 minutes
4x = 45 minutes
2.4x = 24minutes

Also 8x counts down from 7 minutes to zero but total time continues
the same thing with 4x, only 2.4x does countdown time equal total
time.
 Any help with this problem would be appreciated. TIA
