xp settings display

During last few days xp has been rebooting regularly by
itself, although not every time it is turned on. (I have
deleted Win32.Rebooter.Trojan on the last VET check.)
Last time it rebooted it also lost all ability to display
in more than 4bit color. I needed to do system restore to
correct this. Why would this have happened?
