My laptop crashed a couple of months back. XP Pro went
through an auto recovery.Since then XP has substituted
the number "8" in place of the ">" character on the Start
Menu items and minimized icons. The horizontial scroll
bar ">" has been substituted by the number "4", and "<"
by the number "3". Selection Check Boxes display strange
characters instead of a check box. Powerpoint listing
bullets have changed when displayed. I tried an upgrade
to SP2 - no change. Tried a language pack change also.
Thought of trying SFC.exe but have applied many security
patches since installation. Any thoughts on a fix?
