Two ways - Most BIOS have options for touchpad use. Many
times the default is "Auto". You can adjust some to disable the
pad, when a P2/2 mouse is present.
-or-
The touchpad should be listed in Device Manager under the
Mouse category. If a unique touchpad driver isn't installed (such
as Synaptics), then it may appear as a regular mouse.
With a PS/2 or USB mouse attached/working, you should see
an entry in the mouse category for both. You can right click the
driver/instance for the Touchpad and take the context option
Disable. However, by doing this if you remove the external
mouse you'll have no native pointing device active and will have
to use Keyboard controls to navigate.
