On a P4 system with 2 WD 120 meg hard drives, the drives are partitioned
into seven volumes. The system works fine.

1. Under device manager, show hidden devices is a category called
"Storage Volumes". Under it are 36 entries, each with the same disk
icon in front then the label, "Generic volume". Seven of them have an
icon that is "bold". Under properties for these seven it states the
device is working propertly. I assume these each refer to the seven
volumes on the hard drives. The other 29 have a greyed out disk icon
and properties page states:

"Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

"To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer.

These entries are interspersed among the seven that are working.

Is it safe to uninstall these entries?

2. On a related note there is a another category called "Storage Volume
Shadow Copies". There are three entries each with a greyed out icon and
a label, "Generic volume shadow copy".

The Properties page for each gives states the same as above, with the
(Code 45).

Can these be uninstalled as well?

Thanks.
