First thing go to Device Manager PCMCIA slots and make sure
that both slots (If you have two) are enabled and not marked with
a yellow exclamation point or red X.
If that's O.K. go to D-Links website and download the latest
driver package for the card. Before re-attempting the driver make
sure in Network Cards of Device manager that you do not have any
failed instances of the card. Click View, tic "Show Hidden Devices"
Any D-Link DWL's shown grayed out, Right Click and Uninstall.
Next unpack the driver package. Locate the .Inf for the card and
then Right Click and from the context menu choose Install. (But
don't insert the card yet).
Shut the notebook down, insert the card and reboot. XP should
enumerate the card and automatically install the driver. However, it
might prompt you for where the driver set is located. Just direct it
to the unpacked disk location where you saved the driver.
