There appears to be something about that can obstruct the icon getting
into the tray when the program gets loaded automatically at boot.
Getting it there is initiated by the program, so once that is running
(as it thinks happily) refreshing explorer is the opposite of a cure -
it can cause ones that are present to become lost. I am currently
getting the behaviour on one system, and not on another otherwise
identical one with a different build of Windows and (and I suspect
this) a different third party firewall loading.
