Unstable Explorer

This problem is one that I've had since day one. I like
XP, but no matter what computer I use, XP seems to have
explorer problems where probably at least twice a week,
the explorer will fail or you will be doing something and
then suddenly, the screen goes blank with just the
wallpaper there, then the taskbar and the computer
reloads the icons again. (Other times it will actually
say the explorer quit responding.) Are there any
resolutions?
