If you are using Win2000/XP, convert the hdd to NTFS, add a second hdd with NTFS. Convert both drives from basic to dynamic and mirror the first drive to the second. Back up the boot.ini to a floppy or cd and edit the file to read the boot drive to the second drive's letter. If c: fails, boot to the second hdd with floppy and then edit the boot.ini on that partition. This is in the Win2000/XP resource kits found on technet.
