Operating System XP Hangs Up after insertion of CD

my workstation sometimes hangs up when i insert some compact disk (cd); as in it hangs up; no mouse movement; no LED display in numlock, capslock, scroll lock; by cold booting the pc and not ejecting the cd in the drive the data can be read. i already update the needed patches and critical fixes, but still same problem occurs.
