:
: I use Drive Image all the time. It's a good backup program. It
: will write its images of hard drives either to other hard drives,
: or to CDs or DVDs. I assume it will write directly to removeable
: hard drives but haven't tried this, since I don't have a
: removeable hard drive.
:
: The easiest method is to do a compressed image of the drive you
: want to back up and save it to another hard drive, then copy that
: compressed image file to wherever you want to save it.
:
: If you wanted to save your compressed C drive to CD-R disks, or
: DVD-R disks, for example, you could set Drive Image to cut its
: compressed image file into chunks that would fit on the disks you
: are using, have Drive Image write the image file to a backup
: directory you created on the second hard drive, then simply copy
: the parts of the compressed image to the DVD disks. It's quite
: fast and easy that way.
:
: My own practice is to keep two full backups of my C drive on
: another hard drive on my computer, both up to date to within a
: couple of weeks, and every six weeks or so, to copy one of the
: backup sets to DVD-RW disks (the kind that can be erased and used
: over and over). That way I have three full compressed image files
: of C, two on the computer itself and one on DVD storage.
:
: I also use a DVD-RAM disk to backup my most valuable data files,
: uncompressed, by simply copying the data folder to the DVD-RAM
: disk. I'm a little more serious about backups than most people,
: though. :-)
