upgrading to XP home from windows millenium

Hi,

I upgraded from windows ME to XP Home when I did so some of my programs were nolonger on my computer. Like my nero my burning program, power dvd, winamp, word etc. but my personal files are still there. I was just wondering if there was a reason for this? Is this like the normal thing that should happen?
