Have you tried just entering the email account's password when asked
for it?

The email account has always required a password for the emails to be
retrieved. It is just that in the past OE had that information saved
and simply sent it without your friend having to enter it each time.

If the password works, then make sure that the box to remember
password is checked so that he doesn't have to enter it each time (if
he wants to do it that way).

If the password does not work then he will need to contact Comcast to
get his password reset as he has either forgotten it (most likely) or
it got changed on Comcast's end (very unlikely)
