The backup program that comes with XP Pro, and which may be on a Home CD
too, is not really suitable for use with CDs. You have to have third
party 'packet writing' support like Direct CD/InCD/DLA for it to use
them at all, and at that will not recognise them as removable media
which can be 'spanned' across. It is a tape-oriented system, included I
think for its users in Windows NT who want to bring their backups
forward. So look at third party solutions - eg ones by Veritas to be
found at www.stompinc.com
