If the program is trying to access hardware directly,
instead of using OS calls, then it will not work. Windows
XP will not allow programs to directly interact with
devices. A lot of the old DOS programs did access
hardware devices directly.
Likely best thing, if possible and the program provides
for it, would be to load it on to your Win98 machine and
export the data into a text file, or csv, or tab-delimited
format. I do not know what HotLine is, so can not give
any ideas as to what programs that can replace it. If it
is simple data and you can do a csv, or tab delimited
export, you try try importing it into a spread***.
For your second question about Win98 restore, it did not
have one. Restore was first introduced in Win ME.
