There is no reason playing up on people like MS did in this particular
case - since MS never mentioned (made public) this very important problem!
BTW, it's not about *slow* printing - printing speed is normal fast to the
parallel port, but it's about that the XP box gets unusable for other tasks
since the print job completely bogs down the whole system as long as the
printing goes on. Ever thought of network printing? - forget your XP box
when it hosts a parallel port printer. With all my respect for Microsoft,
this is the worst thing I ever faced since joining MS-DOS. It is a slab in
the face of every loyal Windows user. I read this problem is since Windows
2000 came on the market and still not fixed?! Obviously MS intentionally
migrated the "faulty" 2000 code into XP - thanks for this!

You an MS seems to forget what printers have cost years ago and are still
costing - they were pretty expensive compared to today's pricing. Let alone,
that even today's *decent* printers (still) will cost u a grand+ or u pay
for bloody expensive consumables. It is such a bloody stupid pricing game
going on in the IT market, dont u agree? :-)
Said all this, thanks for suggesting me to buy a $60 usb printer! - for two
replacement ink cartridges I could (then) buy another bran' new printer ;-)

Then I definitely would have returned my XP CD for a full refund....
