XP is a more stable system, and installing it as an upgrade of ME gives
a better base provided the hardware is adequate. But make sure that it
is sufficient - you need more RAM than the officially recommended 128MB
(say 256) and a CPU at 400MHz or preferably more, with about 3GB of disk
space currently free. And most important, be sure that the hardware is
not shaky and the underlying cause of your problems. Then Read Gary
Woodruff's article on upgrading to XP at
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpupgrad.htm
